The Michelin Guide's review
This gate designed by the Venetian Michele Sanmicheli (1543) has four columns and three openings; the one in the middle is wide enough for carts while the smaller two are for pedestrians. The central arch bears a statue of St Chrysogone, the town's patron saint, and a winged lion of Venice. The structure was built at a time when the Venetians decided to reinforce the town's defences against possible Turkish attacks.
