Behind the Opera House, at no 4 Philarmonikerstrasse, Sacher Hotel was popular for its private dining rooms where keen admirers of dancers and singers could discreetly meet. Although times have changed, even in Vienna, the hotel is still renowned for its Sachertorte, the gateau served in the late 19C by Anna, Eduard Sacher's widow, with a cigar in her mouth, and which can still be tasted today.
