The Michelin Guide's review
Weary of the discomfort of the castle dating from King Dinis, the fourth Duke of Bragança, Dom Jaime I, undertook the construction of this palace in 1501. It is made up of two perpendicular wings, the main one of which is made of white marble and stretches over 110m. The salons and apartments of King Charles I (1863-1908), a talented painter and draughtsman, and Queen Amelia, fully furnished and decorated with works of art, have been transformed into a museum. The vast park 300m away was once a hunting reserve.
