The Michelin Guide's review
The Promenade des Fossés follows the old ramparts, reinforced with seven round towers, which encircled the town in the Middle Ages. The Porte Neuve (14C-16C) is a gate flanked by two roughwork, machicolated towers. From Porte Ste Croix a path leads down to La Cordelle, where St Bernard came to preach about the second crusade, as shown by a commemorative cross. The promenade ends on the castle terrace behind the basilica.
