A symbol of Classical perfection, the largest palace in the world was a continuous building site from the late 18C until the French Revolution, providing the sumptuous reflection of an era of intensive creation, and emblem of absolute power from the time of Louis XIV to Louis XVI. Miraculously preserved from the ravages of time, the palace and its grounds are gradually being restored to their former glory thanks to a series of major renovation projects.
