The Michelin Guide's Opinion
The Château du Petit Trianon was commissioned by Louis XV for Mme Pompadour. Finished 4 years after her death, Louis XVI presented it as a gift to Marie-Antoinette. It was remodelled as a landscaped garden and adorned with Fabriques, inspired by Rousseau. The tasteful façade on the courtyard, overlooking the formal garden, was by the talented Ange-Jacques Gabriel and is a masterpiece of Louis XVI-style. The wainscoting in the restored rooms is also superb.
