The Michelin Guide's review
The grandiose Gard bridge, a marvel of Antique engineering built in the 1C, stands in a superb site. It was part of a 50km-long aqueduct built to bring spring water from Uzès to Nîmes. The structure is strangely delicate, despite being built from colossal 6t-8t blocks of masonry, raised to over 40m in height to form three levels of recessed arches. The well-worn stonework is reflected against a backdrop of green hills and the waters of the Gardon, which further enhances and adds to the beauty of this listed Grand Site de France.
