The Michelin Guide's review
This impressive 16C gate once guarded access to the city from the "East roadway" and also served as a prison for a time. The avant-corps with two round crenellated towers and machicolations was added in the 17C. Next to the gate, a thick wall extends around Verdun running alongside the left bank of the River Meuse.
