The Michelin Guide's review
The largest and finest Romanesque church in southern France, built between the 11C and 14C, is also home to the largest number of relics in France, including the tomb of St Saturnin, the first bishop of Toulouse. The chevet, made mostly of stone, and the five-storey eight-sided bell tower made of bricks, are magnificent. The huge interior was designed to accommodate large crowds and is typical of a major pilgrimage church. Today this important stopping point on the Way of St James is a UNESCO-listed site.
