The Michelin Guide's review
The magnificently restored Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre houses one of the few remaining double-decker theatres in the world. Designed by Thomas Lamb, the 1,500-seat Elgin and 1,000-seat Winter Garden opened in 1913 and 1914 respectively as vaudeville, and later, silent movie houses. The plush amphitheatre of the Elgin, with its ornate lodges and gold-patterned ceiling, is reached through a gilded lobby of Corinthian pilasters and arched mirrors. A marble staircase leads to the Winter Garden.
