The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Awa Nyngyo Joruri is a theatrical art form born in the Inland Sea in the 17C. Fascinating performances feature life-size puppets which are animated by three puppeteers, accompanied by a narrator and musicians. The small museum relates the manufacture, decoration and techniques involved in bringing these wooden dolls to life. Very popular in the Tokushima region, performances were often staged in Shinto shrines.
