Awa Odori Kaikan
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Every summer from August 12 to 15 during the Tokushima Festival of the Dead, a huge dance parade takes place, the Awa Odori. It is the largest festival in Japan and attracts 100,000 dancers dressed in colourful kimonos who parade through the streets to the sound of shamisens, drums, horns and flutes. The museum features documents and objects related to the history of this festival; we highly recommend the performance offered in addition to the visit that provides a glimpse of the dances (Japanese only).
