The Michelin Guide's review
The Church of La Virgen de la Asunción brings to mind the convent of Santo Domingo de Oaxaca. Behind its simple façade is the spectacular Capilla del Señor de Tlacolula (16C), known as the Chapel of the Martyrs. Entirely covered in polychrome stucco and mirrors, it contains a series of statues of martyrs being crucified, decapitated, stabbed, or with an axe in their skull. The luxuriant Baroque decor is completed by remarkablewrought-iron work.
