The Michelin Guide's review
This now ruined medieval castle was built on the site of a fortified Iron Age settlement. The high walls and round towers of Vale Castle are particularly impressive when seen from the north. The view embraces the east coast of Guernsey and beyond, including the Casquets, Alderney to the north, Herm and Sark to the west, and Jersey to the south. The spot inspired some of the scenes in Victor Hugo's novel, Les Travailleurs de la mer.
