The main building of the Abbaye de Fleury, the basilica of St-Benoît is an outstanding example of art of spirituality. The belfry-porch is a particularly fine example of Romanesque art. Note the carved capitals with alternating acanthus leaves, mythical beasts and biblical scenes. The long Romanesque choir is surrounded by harmonious radiating chapels. The crypt, a late-11C masterpiece, retains its original layout.
