The Michelin Guide's review
Dominating the city, it was built in 1590 and is equipped with glacis and bastions with steps à la Vauban. In the chapel, the 18th-century azulejos, the work of Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes, evoke the life of Saint Philip. The cafeteria has a "Moorish" interior and its terrace offers an extensive panoramic view: to the east over the port and the shipyards, the Sado River bay and Tróia Peninsula; to the west and south over the Serra da Arrábida; to the north, Palmela is easily distinguishable.
