The Michelin Guide's review
At the heart of the ramparts pierced by the fortified Beja gate, the all white town is a pleasant place to stroll. Above the main square, you will reach the largo dos Santos Proculo e Hilarião, planted with olive trees and cypresses, which is dominated by the facade of the church of Santa Maria. Turning to the right, you will reach the castle whose entrance recalls a Romanesque engraving with its half ruined tower. From the surrounding path there is a pretty view over the town.
