Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The collection of the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art is made up of some 4 300 pieces (150 are exhibited in rotation) and divided into three categories: works by Hokkaido artists from the Meiji period onwards, modern and contemporary Japanese artists, and artists from around the world. The latter focuses on paintings from the School of Paris, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The work of the great Hokkaido artist, Kataoka Tamako (1905-2008), is a particular pleasure to contemplate. Born in Sapporo, she was an exponent of the technique known as Nihon-ga or Japanese-style painting.
