The Michelin Guide's review
The Collegiate Church of Santillana del Mar dates from the 12C and 13C. Although its chevet is of a very pure Romanesque design, its façade lacks a little unity. However, because of the harmonious arrangement of its bays and towers, as well as its beautiful golden colour, it fits very well into the square. Inside, note four apostles, Romanesque sculpted stonework and the Hispano-Flemish 16C altarpiece. In the 12C cloister, the capitals, historiated or decorated with plants, were executed by the hand of a master craftsman.
