Bolshaya Morskaya Street, not far from St. Isaac's Cathedral, is emblematic of the residential Admiralty quarter developed in the 19C, when the shipyards were moved and it became the home of artists and businessmen. The homes lining it underscore the splendour of that time: the Demidov House adorned with caryatids and atlantes (n° 43), and the Art Nouveau Nabokov House (n° 47) facing the home of Senator Alexander Polovtsev, dating from 1836, the current headquarters of the Architects Union.
