Sakata Museum of Art

The Michelin Guide's review
This art museum, standing on a green hillside, blends beautifully into the surrounding countryside of Mount Chokai, Mogami River and the town of Sakata. While the building is undoubtedly an architectural feat (designed by Ikehara Yoshiro) and depicted by translucent walls that almost invite the garden indoors, the paintings by Morita Shigeru (1907) and sculpture by Takahashi Goh (1921-1991), the museum's most important holdings, are not as unanimously appreciated.
