The Michelin Guide's review
Built by the French during their occupation of St. John's in 1762, this fort, which defended the access to St John's from the rear, was reinforced by the British in the early 19C due to the threat of war with the United States. The living quarters of the soldiers, simple colonial-style wooden house, have been restored to reflect the 1812 era. Below is the fishing village of Quidi Vidi, linked by a narrow channel to the larger Quidi Vidi Lake, site of the annual St. John's Regatta.
