The Michelin Guide's review
Dating from 1820, this large clapboard house with its tall chimneys was one of the few buildings to escape the 19C fires. Used for many years by the commissariat, the department responsible for supplying the military post of St. John's with provisions, the house also served as the local government pay office. After 1871, it became the rectory for adjacent Church of St. Thomas. The restored house contains offices, a kitchen, reception rooms and bedrooms as well as an exhibition devoted to the site.
