The Michelin Guide's review
Ludwigsplatz and the Church of St Louis which stands at its centre, built by Stengel between 1762 and 1775, form one of the finest and most harmonious Baroque architectural ensembles in Germany. The square is bordered by eight palaces of varying sizes which illustrate perfectly the passage from Baroque to Classical. Their white and silver-grey tones set off to perfection the attractive reddish yellow of the sandstone church, which is built in the shape of a Greek cross and dominated by a tower with an octagonal crown.
