This is the main street in a shopping district laid out by Van den Broek and Bakema in 1953. The street broke the mould for urban development and was the first of its kind: pedestrian, lined with shops and - a real luxury! - partly sheltered from the rain. The concept has been highly successful throughout Europe ever since.
