The Michelin Guide's review
Rebuilt by Leo III in the 9C and restored in the late 15C by Sixtus IV, the church's current appearance dates from the 16C. Completed in 1603, the façade is a harmonious masterpiece by Carlo Maderno (1556-1629), who was inspired by the façade of the Chiesa del Gesù, an archetype of the Counter-Reformation style. Its austere façade features colonnettes and employs the play of light, diffused by niches and pediments.
