The Michelin Guide's review
The church of Santa Maria della Vittoria was designed by Carlo Maderno, also responsible for the church of Santa Susanna, although the former was built much later and is more emblematic of the Counter-Reformation, and thus less unusual. The interior is however richly Baroque with trompe l'oeil frescoes (vaulting and dome), polychrome marble (walls) and gilding (stucco work). The Cornaro Chapel (left-hand side) houses the remarkable Ecstasy of St Theresa of Avila (1646) by Bernini.
