The Michelin Guide's review
This is one of Bernini's most important churches. Its proximity to a church by his rival Borromini was doubtless a spur to his efforts here. As was so often the case, the architect had to give an aura of grandeur to a relatively small building. And here he succeeded, as evidenced by the cleverly laid out interior incorporating rich materials like coloured marble, gilding and stuccowork. A triumph!
