Montemartini Power Station
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This electricity power station (the first public thermoelectric power station partly powered by steam turbines) is an unusual setting in which to find sculpture from the Musei Capitolini collections. The exhibits, which date from the 6C BC to the 1C AD, stand cheek-by-jowl alongside huge old diesel engines, providing an interesting contrast between the Ancient and industrial eras. The effect is striking, as typified by the Esquiline Venus (Roman copy dating from the Imperial period), which can be admired in the boiler room.
