The Michelin Guide's review
Rein Abbey, dominated by its elegant Baroque bell tower, stands out among wooded hills. The oldest Cistercian abbey in Austria was founded in 1129 and became a masterpiece of Baroque art in the 18C. Like a violin, its abbey church façade is shaped into a skilful harmony of convex and concave lines. Inside the church, the trompe-l'oeil and bright colours of the nave are bathed in light, creating a magical and theatrical scene.
