The Michelin Guide's review
The deep cellars of Reims, spread over 120km of galleries, have earned a worldwide reputation. The major establishments (Ruinart, Taittinger, Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin et al) gather on the chalky slopes of the Butte St Nicaise, with its "chalk quarries" - many of them Gallo-Roman - or in the Champ de Mars neighbourhood. During a visit you will get to see the facilities, tools and champagne-making techniques and even receive an introduction to tasting.
