Hôtel Saint-Jean-Baptiste de La Salle
Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's Opinion
It was in this Renaissance property, built between 1545 and 1556, that the priest and educational reformer Jean-Baptiste de La Salle was born in 1651. Assured of a brilliant ecclesiastical career, he decided, however, to devote himself to the education of the poor and founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. The façade, adorned with pilasters which are Doric at their base but Ionic higher up, is flanked by an entry pavilion with a coaching door depicting Adam and Eve. A highly decorative sculpted frieze extends across the entire length of the façade.
