The Michelin Guide's review
This early-18C stone house, of priceless historic value, was erected on the site of the St. Joseph mission (the first Jesuit mission in North America), established by the Jesuits in 1637 in an attempt to convert the Montagnais, Algonquins and Atikamekw to a sedentary lifestyle. A stone fort was built to protect the mission from attacks by the Iroquois. An exhibition relates the encounter between the First Nations and the Europeans.
