The Michelin Guide's review
This is one of Prague's first Cubist buildings and doubtless the finest. It was built in 1912 based on a design by Josef Gočár to house a department store, and is striking in its modernity. The highly elaborate façade incorporates a lot of glass; Cubist-style details (portico, balcony railings, dormer windows) complete the audacious overall effect. The statue of the Black Madonna is suspended in a cage at the corner.
