The Mouffetard district lies to the south of St Geneviève mountain. A tiny village in its own right within Paris, it is a blend of warmth and conviviality with a pinch of cockiness, where students mingle with the working-classes and a liberal sprinkling of tourists! Once, literally a cut-throat district, it has become gentrified as the astronomical price of property reflects. Despite that, if you manage to turn the right corner at the right moment, you can still glimpse the old Mouffetard described so vividly by Simenon in his books...
