The fire that raged through Notre Dame Cathedral on 15 April 2019 caused the collapse of the spire by Viollet-Le-Duc. The reconstruction of what has been a place of worship for 20 centuries, originally a Gallo-Roman temple, should last for 5 years. Maurice de Sully began construction of the cathedral around 1163 and it was one of the first to boast flying buttresses extended by gargoyles. The doors of the façade remain extraordinary. Notre Dame Cathedral is truly one of the capital's most iconic buildings.
