The royal apartments include the Salone d'Ercolo, the seat of the Sicilian parliament since 1947, which is named after its huge frescoes by Giuseppe Velasquez (19C) depicting the Twelve Labours of Hercules. After the Sala dei Viceré (Viceroys' Hall) and the Sala dei Venti (Hall of the Winds), the central room of the Joaria - the most distinctive of the old towers - you come to the Sala di Ruggero II, (King Roger's bedchamber), the most interesting room in the palace, the decoration of which emulates the Cappella Palatina.
