The Michelin Guide's review
Built by Giacomo Amato between 1678 and 1684, Santa Maria della Pietà is rich in dramatic Roman Baroque details, such as the superimposed Corinthian columns. The interior was painted by Guglielmo Borremans, the stunning ceiling (1708) is by Antonio Grano and the stuccowork by Giacomo Serpotta. Also of interest is the chancel railing depicting a rising sun, which marks out the section reserved for the Dominican nuns who founded the church.
