The Michelin Guide's review
The Church of the Archangel Gabriel was built in 1707 by Alexander Menshikov, one of Peter the Great's ministers. The interior with its gilded wood iconostasis and stucco décor is magnificent. But the church's Baroque exuberance finds its most striking expression in the high bell tower, also known as the Menshikov Tower.
