The Michelin Guide's review
In the former bishops' palace (1664), the first floor is devoted to Ingres, born in Montauban in 1780; the second floor has an excellent collection of Primitives and paintings from the 14C to the 18C. The ground floor displays works by Bourdelle, who was also born in Montauban (1861). Two rooms are devoted to two other local artists, François Desnoyer (1894-1972) and Armand Cambon (1819-85), a pupil of Ingres. Opposite the museum bronze by Bourdelle, The Death of the Last Centaur.
