The Michelin Guide's review
This street in the Wakimachi neighbourhood is home to a row of merchant houses dating from the Edo period and Meiji era. What makes them unusual architecturally speaking is the presence of udatsu on the first floor. These firewalls gradually became a symbol of wealth in this town that owed its prosperity to the manufacture and sale of indigo and silk. The home of the Yoshida family, one of the wealthiest of the town, is open to the public.
