The Michelin Guide's review
At the upper end of the town there were the Greek acropolises, then Arab fortifications, to which other ramparts have been added: a Spanish rampart, then an Aragonese rampart with five conical topped towers. Inside is the castle. It was in the great hall with five bays that the Sicilian Parliament met in 1295. From the ramparts that look over the sea, there is a fine view of the Aeolian Islands.
