Monte di Pietà of Messina
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The Monte di Pietà in Messina is located in a late Mannerist-style palace. The most remarkable feature is its massive doorway with diamond cutters, flanked by sturdy columns and with a balcony above, the only remaining vestige of the upper storey, which was destroyed by the 1908 earthquake. The complex, which has all the charm of romantic ruins, is used as an exhibition and events space.
