Mercuès castle
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Once the property of the Count Bishops of Cahors and now turned into a hotel-restaurant, the château occupies a remarkable site above the right bank of the Lot. A fortified castle mentioned as early as 1212, extended in the 14C and 15C, besieged several times during the Hundred Years War and Wars of Religion, it gained a recreational role in the 16C with the creation of terraces and gardens. The residence of the bishops of Cahors was restored in the 19C.
