Mareuil castle
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Seat of one of the four baronies of the Périgord, Mareuil fortress was largely destroyed during the Hundred Years War. In the 15C, Geoffroi de Mareuil had the castle of his ancestors rebuilt, with the addition of Renaissance features that modified the stronghold without completely removing the defensive elements: moat, surrounding wall and two cylindrical towers. One of the rooms is dedicated to the First Empire, furniture and documents tell the story of Marshal Lannes, Duke of Montebello, ancestor of the current owners.
