The Michelin Guide's review
Founded by Charles II in 1682, this hospital serves as a home for army veterans. Christopher Wren was responsible for its construction, which lasted for ten years, and the Royal Hospital has hardly changed since. Based on the model of the Royal Hotel at Les Invalides in Paris, the plans for which were lent by Louvois, the hospital is built in the middle of gardens that slope gently down towards the Thames.
