The Michelin Guide's review
Surrounded by a fence in 1433 and enclosed by a wall under the Stuarts, the park, of nearly 90ha, is the oldest enclosed royal estate. The rows of sweet chestnut trees and huge lawns are laid out around a hill which stands at 52m above the Thames, and which is crowned by the former Royal Observatory and a monument to General Wolfe.
