The Michelin Guide's review
Built for Catherine II by Antonio Rinaldi in 1774, the Roller-Coaster Pavilion was designed to amuse the court. Thanks to a slope over 500 metres long starting on the 2nd floor, Catherine the Great and her court got quite a thrill on this forerunner of modern "roller coaster". The original wooden structure has been dismantled, but the pavilion's handsome interior remains, in particular the porcelain cabinet, which contains 40 sculptures by Meissen.
