Originally a working-class area, since the 1980s this neighbourhood with its growing number of discotheques, restaurants, fashion and design boutiques (Rua do Norte, Rua do Diário de Notícias, Rua da Atalaia and Rua da Rosa), has been the place where Lisbon's trendy set and night owls congregate. It caters to all tastes, from fado house to gay disco, jazz club to picturesque bars.
