The Michelin Guide's review
Its name, Fora, which means "outside the walls" indicates that, when the church was built, between 1582 and 1627, it stood outside Lisbon's city walls. The interior is outstanding for the simplicity of its lines. The cloister walls are covered with 18C azulejos, illustrating La Fontaine's Fables. The former refectory was transformed into a pantheon for the House of Braganca. In the convent caretaker's house the large azulejo panel depicts the taking of Lisbon from the Moors.
